There is a saying we all cherish : “Dream. Believe. Do… Repeat”!
After the incredible 1st Wheeling2help project which we dreamed, believed and completed in September 2015, when we cycled 2.500 km in Europe from London to Athens in 35 days passing by 8 countries, gathering 15.654 euro for children with cancer, we’re ready for our new challenge!
On September 7,
the day that Paralympics started, we started to cycle:
from Istanbul to Heraklion Crete,
a distance of 1,700 km
in 32 days
and we organized 20 big events
in order to raise 19.000 euro and buy 100 wheelchairs for disabled children.
Our goal aside from supplying wheelchairs to disabled children, was also to raise awareness about the problems disabled people are facing. During our project, big volunteering festivals took place in 20 different cities, where NGOS, local institutions and associations organized beautiful activities on disability, sport, environment, health, arts, education, creative activities for children and adults!
There were many ideas for each city, like volley, street mini tennis, martial arts, zumba, painting, crafts, creations with recyclable materials, planting trees, beach clean ups, live music, theater, paralympic sports, interactive activities, workshop on how to make ramps, and a whole lot more!
Of course, the purpose of our action was to engage as many people as possible, so we invited everyone to cycle with us for some part of the route! The distances each day were not that big and the pace was quite relaxed so that everyone could enjoy!
